Handing out bibles?

We get it... you don't want to be seen as a "bible thumper" but please, hear us out.

There's this hand-out that's only got the Gospel of John in it, which beautifully explains God's love for us. The Gospel of John is also uniquely written at the 6th grade reading level, making it easy to understand for everyone. Because of this it's commonly the Gospel that most bible study groups will start with, and it begins with God's creation through Jesus.

There's a company called The Pocket Testament League, they've been handing these pocket testaments out since the early 1900's (you can read the story HERE). These are a simple paperback Gospel of John, more than just a pamphlet, and they've got different covers which inspire people to open the book.

How do we use them? Glad you asked ☺

Years ago we began handing out bibles to homeless people panhandling at the freeway offramps. Once you opened up your window they were a captive audience, lol, so we'd hand them a bible with a McDonalds booklet for free food items. We never once had one refused, and most said "thank you". We'd purchase these bibles from thrift stores for a couple of dollars, I think we spent $5 on the food booklets, so the cost was minimal and we were giving people food for the soul and body.

When we discovered the pocket testaments it was a game changer! The cost is less than $1 each, when ordering 60 at a time, which isn't very many once you get the hang of handing them out. Because they are small (pocket size) it's easy to carry them in a purse, a couple in your pocket, and also in the center console or door of you car (making them easily accessible at freeway offramps).  

The McDonalds food booklets aren't as available as they use to be, so now we include a fast food BOGO coupon and $5 when we hand these out to the homeless. However, these pocket testaments are beautiful and easy to carry, so we don't limit ourselves to just the homeless anymore. Because of the inspiring covers, people are genuinely happy to receive them, and some even ask for an extra one.

We found it also works great to share these when someone comments on our shirts. It's a perfect opportunity to say "thank you" and hand them a Gospel of John. These Gospel's by the Pocket Testament League have changed the game of "bible thumping" in a good way!
